Bangkok--2 Mar--Unithai Group Unithai is collaborating with Thai Industrial Gas Public Company Limited (TIG), the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment’s Department of Environmental Education and Promotion, and the Community Health Care Centre to promote safety at Wat Bua Ruoy School in Samut Prakan province. The project is designed to raise the children’s awareness of Safety, Health and Environmental (SHE) issues and to help the school achieve SHE standards so it can serve as a model in the “best practice” of SHE culture in the school environment for other schools in the community. The target is a zero accident rate from the day the project is launched. Wat Bua Ruoy School is part of the “Dream School” initiative introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2005. The idea is to develop one school in each sub-district to a decent educational standard and be a place where students lead happy lives within a warm, healthy and safe school environment. Unithai’s commitment to this program has focused on providing vocational workshops on subjects that interest the students. Training has already been provided in electrical and mechanical maintenance and welding, and Unithai has awarded four scholarships to students of Wat Bua Ruoy School who have demonstrated excellent skills in the workshops, enabling them to pursue their education in vocational colleges. Along with the vocational training provided by Unithai and safety training supported by the TIG team, we also emphasise that Safety, Health and Environment knowledge is essential, not only in industry but also in schools. To this end Unithai has collaborated with the school, TIG, community healthcare officials and the Department of Environmental Education and Promotion in establishing this project. This project will be supervised by the school’s SHE committee, comprising student representatives from each classroom. The committee will monitor SHE conditions, keep records and ensure that everyone in the school follows the SHE regulations outlined for them.
