Bangkok--4 Mar--Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide Adman Awards 2009 Comes with Ambitious Theme of “The National Ad Day — Clever Ads Bring Prosperity to Thailand” The Executive Committee of the Advertising Association of Thailand (AAT) today announced the details of the 6th annual Adman Awards & Symposium 2009 — the premier local awards festival for Thailand’s advertising industry, scheduled on May 29, 2009 at the Royal Paragon Hall, Siam Paragon. This year’s festival carries the theme of “The National Ad Day — Clever Ads Bring Prosperity to Thailand”, to celebrate bold, unique and constraint-defying creative works that are able to achieve brand building objective and sales success. The theme also reflects the significant role of advertising industry in Thailand, as many outstanding creative works locally produced can hugely appeal to worldwide audience and the industry has constantly contributed to the country’s economic vitality and prosperity. . Trong Tantivejakul, Executive Creative Director, Y&R Thailand, who serves as the chairman of the Judging Committee at Adman Awards 2009 said that “This year theme comes from the idea that we wish to have one day of a year that we can celebrate and pay tribute to the advertising industry, like children celebrating the Children’s Day. Thai advertising industry has continued to bring global recognition to the country. Many Thai creative works outshine in international arena and serve as case study for foreign industry insiders. At the current economic momentum, advertising people are obliged to be more passionate in creating great works. We need the kind of works which are so convincing that they stir the audience’s emotions and quench consumer desire. When ads manage to sell products and services, people spend more. This helps boost the economy. I’m not exaggerating to say that ‘clever ads can bring prosperity to Thailand’s economy’.” The new category “Interactive and Digital Media” is open in response to the growing role of online media and the Internet in marketing communication. The “Ad That Works” category, introduced last year for creative work from marketing strategist and client side, with a separate judging committee, also continues this year. The judging criteria for “Ad That Works” focus on the effectiveness of the campaign in achieving intended marketing and brand building purposes. The award is equivalent to ‘Best of the Best’ category. Parames Rachjaibun, Chairman Emeritus of the AAT and The Chairman of the Organizing Committee, said: “the Adman Awards & Symposium 2009 aims to create awareness on the value in the career of advertising and marketing communication and what the role of the industry in Thai economy. To have a high level of self-esteem in career is essential in seeking fresh and innovative idea.” The awards have been divided into 11 categories; TV Commercials, Print, Outdoor & Ambience, Radio Spot, Graphic Design, Innovative Media, Public Relations Campaign, Event Marketing, Integrated Campaign, “Ad That Works” and Interactive and Digital Media. The number of total awards is 289. The festival also includes two Symposium — a student symposium being sponsored and co-hosted by Sripatum University, and an executive symposium being co-hosted by BrandAge magazine. These forums serve as a platform for discussion as well as for sharing idea and experience among advertising people and university students who are studying in the field. The Adman Symposium will comprise several collaborative and educational sessions, with participants sharing ideas and experiences relative to the advertising industry. Moderators and panels will interact with attendees to share key learnings and relevant case studies, as well as discuss and identify trends that might help shape the future of the advertising industry.
