Bangkok--5 Mar--Oasis Media Home Builder Association believes purchasing power is still strong in the market as its activities in early 2009 could generate almost 500 MB on-site sales. Home Builder Association believes home builder market is still strong as solid demands are seen in its Home Builder Focus 2009, which could generate almost 500 MB on-site sales. In this event, top demands are seen in the 2.5-5 MB housing segment, while average selling price per unit falls into the 4.4 MB category. The association also reveals its policy to expedite the building up of consumer confidence in order to eat up the market share from small contractors and to achieve 20% market share in 2009. Mr. Panthep Thanchitikul, the President of the Home Builder Association, disclosed about its Home Builder Focus 2009 held during February 27 - March 1, 2009 at the Bangkok Convention Centre, Central Plaza Ladproa, that the event could generate an on-site sale of 470 MB, in line with the Association’s expectation. In this event, top demands (42% of total sales) were seen in the 2.5-5 MB housing segment, while 5-10 MB segment came second with 26% and the rest fell into below 2.5 MB segment, 10-20 MB segment and more than 20 MB segment. In term of average selling price, 2009 average per unit was 4.4 MB, in line with the average seen in Home Builder 2008 held in August at 4.2 MB. In general, the Association was satisfied with the number of its visitors, as the event received good response from its targets and registered a total of 10,000 visitors, most of which were pleased with the unadjusted prices and special offers. “We discover from the event that a majority of our visitors have very high hope on prices and we really must say that this is their golden opportunity, as there have not been upward changes in construction material prices yet, while interest rates offered by commercial banks are very appealing. On top of these, our members are also keen to offer special packages since the beginning of the year; therefore, it is believed that all these positive factors will help stimulate 1H09 market well.” Mr. Panthep said. Mr. Panthep further added that the Association believed the 2009 home building market would grow in general, as it had conducted on-site researches with more than 2,000 visitors at its Home Builder Focus 2009 and found out that 53% of the respondents responded positively about their demands for home building, while top demands were seen in the less than 5 MB category. In line with this, the Association had a policy to expedite the building up of consumer confidence focusing especially on the upgrading of its members’ service standard, as it was estimated that the total value of current home building market was as high as Baht 50 BN annually. Out of this figure, home building companies had a market share of Baht 9.8 BN or less than 20%, while the majority went to small contractors. In this regard, the Association aimed to increase its market share in 2009 to Baht 10 BN or 20%.
