ESCADA Spring / summer 2009 ‘The Explorer’ collection from Germany is a trip from Africa to Asia, where she steals colors, details, prints, shapes and jewelry that she adapts to her strong personal style. Women such as German model Veruschka with her exotic and sensual charisma give this collection its particular defining edge. Reflecting a freedom of spirit, the ESCADA Sport summer 2009 spices up the collection for a playful and darling for women with young at heart. ‘The Explorer’ collection, silhouette is lean — as the longer, just below the knee skirts and skinny pants help to achieve a clear sharpness. In the jackets there is a 50’s glamour, as in the movie “Mogambo” with Grace Kelly and Ava Gardner, these cuts and details gives the tailoring a new strong signature for the season. The dress is key for the summer, whether in a signature print or asymmetrically draped, it softens the otherwise geometric offer. Colors are intense in their mixtures such as salmon, purple orchid and lagoon which in combination intrigue the eye. Fine detailing is prevalent throughout, as luxurious embroideries, sculptural folds and circular smocking reinvents itself throughout the season.
In addition, the ESCADA Sport Spring/Summer 2009 collection was inspired by modern women who are young at heart, dynamic with an inner strength of security that affront each day self assured and with a positive ?Joie de vivre“. Her day is like an imaginary Paris/Dakar Rally, affronting and conquering each challenge but with a freedom of spirit that is playful and daring at the same time. She is like a contemporary Joan of Arc who wears her motorcycle jacket as if it were a suit of armour.
Modern updated versions of the motorbike jackets are in stretch cottons, white denim, and spectator styles or in supple leathers in jacket, bomber or car coat shapes. The sultan pant in cotton/nylon satin stretch and silk crepe de chine. The cropped bomber. The long boyfriend jacket worn with short mini dresses. The scuba coat and cropped jacket in neoprene. Prints are bold florals, soft pastel florals or graphic “camouflage”. Double T?s in black and white or fluorescent and white are reminiscent of the 1980?s. Knitwear is soft, fluid and slightly loose fitting.
The deliveries are the names of this imaginary Paris/Dakar Rally which focuses each color concept: Lisboa: city brights — sky blue and sweet grass mixed with neutrals of white and khaki and touches of dark olive. Portimao: City pastels — cherry blossom and robin?s egg played off neutrals of white and khaki highlighted with the color sun. Nador: City neutrals — sand and brown with white and khaki and hints of red. Ivoray Coast: Ebony and ivory — black and white highlighted with cyclamen and leaf. Dakar: Hot brights and summer whites — fluorescent pink and fluorescent yellow with optic whites.
