Not many have the opportunity to represent their country in front of over 100 other countries unless you are a politician, diplomat or an sports star. Terada Tejapongvorachai ( Oom, 23) a communication arts student from the Chulalongkorn University recently had this opportunity through AIESEC.
Oom is the newly elected President for AIESEC in Thailand and was the representative for Thailand at the Global Leadership Summit of AIESEC, the world’s largest youth —run organization. The 15 day conference held from 15th -30th February brings together over 200 young leadership from over 107 countries to discuss world issues, select the global leadership team, leadership and capacity building workshops and global planning process of the organization.
“During the 15 days in the conference, we have variety of beneficial session from organization workshop, networking time, competitor analyze, focus area planning, sharing, Asia Pacific working group, etc. From this experience, I got to shape my vision, my understanding of AIESEC, build strong networking, diversity of culture and experience an unique working environment that you would never find in other places.
This 14 days alone in strange place for the first time, I was dared to travel alone and achieve this special experience by my own. But as you become an AIESECer and especially the President of AIESEC in the country, you should know how to lead by example and stand on your own for the sake of others.” Says Oom of her experience.
The conference also included a special public event ‘Global Village’ where representative from each country had the opportunity to share their culture with the general public. Representatives from the Royal Thai Embassy in Italy joined Oom at the event.
AIESEC ( pronounced ‘eye-sek’ , www.aiesec.org) , is the world’s largest youth-run organization, provides young people with an integrated leadership development experience including international internships across its network of 107 countries.
