Bangkok--19 Mar--Export Promotion, Ministry of Commerce
Ministry of Commerce now accepts applications for “Prime Minister’s Export Award 2009” aiming to fully boost the standard and the competitive ability of Thai exporters in today’s Global market.
Thailand’s Department of Export Promotion under the Ministry of Commerce is now accepting applications for the “Prime Minister’s Export Award 2009” attempting to encourage Thai exporters to raise the competitive potential of Thai products and services in this current world economic situation.
The Permanent Secretary of Commerce Mr. Siripol Yodmuangcharoen reveals that “The 18th Prime Minister’s Export Award is the highest award by the Thai Government bestowed to outstanding Thai exporters and service providers. This prestigious award aims to support and encourage Thailand’s export industry to strive through the world’s strong competition with their excellent products and services and also to assure high quality and credibility of Thai exported goods and services in the global market which creates trade advantages and eventually benefits the country’s overall economy.”
“The world’s economy is currently fiercely competitive. Many countries have now been reducing their import volume and pushing very hard to retain exports in current and new markets. Each country has to reinforce the quality of their products using well-planned tactics and strategies to meet the needs and reach customer segments in the targeted countries. The department will once again have a joint government-private sector committee of experts gathered from various fields to help in the selection process. The committee this year will carefully consider all business dimensions such as product and service development, competitive pricing, brand or image building for Thai products, corporate governance business, and environmental responsibilities,” says Mr. Siripol.
Mr. Siripol also explains that, “due to the slowdown of the existing global economy, the ministry has planned urgent measures which will cost around 3,000 million Baht of the government’s budget to help affected Thai exporters and expand exports to 14 new markets such as China, India, Japan, and Russia by visiting these countries and having trade negotiations with their private sector to seek cooperation. The ministry is firmly confident that those measures are effective and will definitely increase Thailand’s export volume.” says Mr. Siripol.
This year the department plans to hand out five awards categories including 1. Best Exporter, 2. Thai-Owned Brand, 3. Design Excellence Award (DEmark), 4. Best Service Provider, and 5. OTOP Export Recognition.
The Prime Minister’s Export Award has been organized since 1992 with over 270 winning exporters and 332 total awards handed out. This year Prime Minister of Thailand will once again preside over the award ceremony held in August at the Santi Maitri Buildings, The Government House.
