Prof. Dr. Amorn Leelarasamee, President of Infectious Disease of Thailand recently presided over The 7th International Symposium on Antimicrobial Agents and Resistance (ISAAR 2009), entitled “New Insights and Solutions to Emerging Threats”. The symposium discussed about the global and regional factors of the resistance to antimicrobial treatment especially pneumococcal disease. This disease is the leading cause of 2 millions deaths in children younger than five years of age worldwide and have 61 percent of microbial resistance. More than 2,000 infectious doctors from 54 countries worldwide joined this global symposium at Centara Grand Hotel, Bangkok.
