Au Bon Pain, the popular, Boston based Bakery Cafe located in urban markets across the country, has been named the Number One Fast Casual Concept by Fast Casual Magazine. Au Bon Pain received this award in Fast Casual’s December Edition entitled “The Top 100 Movers and Shakers”.
Among the reasons for choosing Au Bon Pain, Fast Casual cites Au Bon Pain’s reputation for food that’s “not only good, but also good for you.” The company was one of the first chains to begin removing artificial trans fats from its products in 2003, and now all its products have zero grams artificial trans fat.
Additionally, Au Bon Pain also uses only all-natural chicken in its sandwiches, salads and wraps. Earlier this year, Au Bon Pain was recognized by the editors of Health magazine as one of “America’s Healthiest Restaurants.” The editors praised Au Bon Pain’s Nutrition Kiosks, which allow guests to plan a nutritious meal and sort the menu by a specific nutritional requirement — high fiber or protein; or low carb, fat, cholesterol, sodium or calories.
In the spring of 2008, Au Bon Pain introduced 14 new Portions menu items that are all 200 calories or less. According to Ed Frechette, Sr. Vice President of Marketing, “Our new Portions menu items were a big factor in setting us apart from our competitors. Consumers are looking for healthier, low calorie options and our new Portions menu meets that need.”
