Bangkok--25 Mar--Mercedes-Benz
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class, the trendsetter among today’s SUV’s, has been meticulously revamped. In announcing the launch of the new look ML 280 CDI Sports in Thailand, Professor Dr. Alexander Paufler, President and CEO of Mercdes-Benz (Thailand) said the new generation of this highly successful vehicle featured even more distinctive characteristics and looked even sportier and more powerful.
“The exceptional status of the M-Class comes down to its characteristic dynamics, stylish design and a combination of compelling performance both on and off-road,” said Dr. Paufler.
“The ML 280 CDI also comes with a range of safety features that are unsurpassed in the SUV segment,” he said. “In addition, as with virtually all new Mercedes-Benz models these days, there is enhanced fuel consumption.”
Styling modifications give the revamped M-Class an even sportier look with the front end of this off-roader now defined by a redesigned bumper, recontoured headlamps and a larger, even more dominant radiator. The rear view also sports a new-look bumper with integrated reflector strips, emphasising the vehicle's width, as well as tails lights with a smoked-glass look.
Roof rails are now also included as part of the standard-fit styling and practical features, along with the new powerful mirrors with their larger surface designed to provide better visibility Stylistic fine-tuning and new high-grade materials combine with a new two-tone colour scheme to add fresh highlights to the interior. The door centre panel is now trimmed in ARTICO man-made leather.
The eye is also drawn to the new, four-spoke leather multifunction steering wheel with its chrome trim, improved ease of operation and standard-fit shift paddles. The seats have a more attractive, sportier design and can be fitted with four-way lumbar support.
The M-Class standard specification has also been significantly upgraded. It now includes the unique anticipatory occupant protection system PRE-SAFE? and NECK-PRO head restraints as well as an all-new, high-performance telematics system developed by Mercedes-Benz, which is much easier to use thanks to a host of new functions.
ML 280 CDI Sports NG powered by V6 engine of 2,987 cc, output at 140kW (190 hp) at 4,000 rpm, 440 rated torque Nm at 1,400 to 2,800 rpm, acceleration 0-100 km/h within 9.8 seconds, top speed at 205 km/h., consumption 1/100 km by average at 7.6 (Extra-urban).
Unrivalled safety features as standard
The Mercedes-Benz M-Class has always set the benchmark in terms of safety in the SUV segment. The comprehensive safety package also provides next-generation Anti-lock Braking (ABS), Brake Assist (BAS), Four-wheel Electronic Traction Control (4ETS), Electronic Stability Programme (ESP), Trailer Stability Assist and Acceleration Skid Control — resulting in a full five-star Euro NCAP impact test rating.
ML 280 CDI has permanent all-wheel drive and all make use of a 7G-Tronic seven-speed automatic transmission — now fitted with proper gearshift paddles which are much easier to use than the previous behind-the-wheel buttons.
M-Class awarded top marks for safety in Euro NCAP test
The new-generation M-Class has passed European NCAP (New Car Assessment Programme) crash tests with flying colours and has been awarded the top mark of five stars for its very high level of occupant protection. The Mercedes off-roader has also achieved outstanding results in tests carried out by US rating organisations.
The M-Class is the first vehicle in its market segment anywhere in the world to be fitted as standard with the anticipatory occupant protection system PRE-SAFE?. The system makes use of the valuable seconds which elapse between a critical situation being identified and a possible impact ensuing, to instigate protective measures. This makes it possible to reduce the forces acting on the occupants in an impact by up to 40 per cent.
The M-Class has received the coveted “Top Safety Pick” designation from the US Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
