UN Under-Secretary-General Noeleen Heyzer, the Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), today announced the appointment of Mr. Nagesh Kumar of India, as Chief of the Macroeconomic Policy and Development Division. Mr. Kumar will serve as the chief economist for ESCAP.
Mr. Kumar has served as the Director-General of the Research and Information System for Developing Countries (RIS), where he managed the premier policy think tank based in New Delhi. RIS’s mandate is to assist developing countries with analytical capacity in international economic and development policy issues. Prior to his work with RIS, Mr. Kumar served the Institute for New Technologies of the United Nations University where he developed and coordinated research and training programmes as well as offered advice and guidance to UN agencies.
Born in 1958, in India, Mr. Kumar holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Delhi.
