Honda’s Asia & Oceania Regional Headquarters announced the start exports of motorcycle KD (Knock Down) sets of engine assemblies, PGM-FI units and other component parts to Japan.
The KD sets are manufactured by Thai Honda Manufacturing Co., Ltd. in the Ladkrabang Industrial Estate, Ladkrabang. They are destined for the Honda Motor Japan Kumamoto facility for production of the brand new Honda Super Cub 110 model to be sold in Japan starting 19 June 2009.
The key component supplied from Thailand for the Honda Super Cub 110 is the latest 110cc 4-stroke air cooled engine equipped with the ‘PGM-FI’ Fuel Injection system. This system is currently deployed in the Honda CZ-i and Wave 110i models, both representing Honda’s focus on the environment by providing improved fuel efficiency, cleaner exhaust emissions and better overall performance.
Mr. Fumihiko Ike, President & CEO, Asian Honda Motor Co., Ltd., said, “The start of exports of key motorcycle components such as the engine assemblies and PGM-FI units from Thailand to Japan is further proof of Thai capability and quality, including our materials and component suppliers. Honda started motorcycle production in Thailand back in 1967. Now, the Thailand Honda Motorcycle Operations have grown to be one of the key functions of Global Honda Motorcycle Operations and are expected to play a greater role each year.”
Honda has so far exported Thai-made motorcycles, KD sets and parts to over 40 countries worldwide at an export value that reached 23,881 million baht in 2008.
*KD set is a knock down set of vehicle component parts for assembly.
