Bangkok--13 Jul--Hill & Knowlton Thailand DHL Global Forwarding, the global leader in air and ocean freight, recently initiated a pioneer project called “Expanding the Horizon of Learning” to promote Education in Thailand, as part of its commitment to contribute knowledge and expertise to the young through educational opportunities. The company gave a warm welcome to 50 students on a sponsored field trip to DHL’s facilities in Bangkok to get first-hand experience of how logistics operations are managed at DHL. Seeing how theory is put to practice during the field trip helped the students gain a deeper understanding of what they have learned at school about imports, exports and supply chain activities. The students are from the Namonpittayakom School and Phangkhon Commercial and Technology School in Sakon Nakorn and Kalasin Province. Thomas Tieber, Managing Director, Thailand and CEO, South Asia, DHL Global Forwarding said, “Logistics is a fundamental industry within any nation. At current, logistics costs in Thailand are on average higher than its comparable countries within the region. Thus, we see significant growth potentials for logistics in Thailand and these young people are the future talents for the industry. In line with the title of the activity, the “Expanding the Horizon of Learning with DHL Global Forwarding”, we hope this visit may spark their interest and open up the possibility of a career in logistics.” Vincent Yong, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding (Thailand) said, “DHL recognizes the importance of nurturing our young people today and helping them to prepare for a future career. We see that there’ still a lack of logistics experts and a factor maybe that this industry is not perceived as an attractive industry, career-wise. This programme aims to broaden their horizons beyond the classroom. Instead of visiting them in the classroom, we believe that it is better for them to learn from experience by visiting our business and seeing firsthand what we do in logistics and supply chain.” Education is one of the three core pillars of DHL’s corporate social responsibility agenda, along with Environment and Disaster Management.
