THAI Cargo Receives National Occupational Safety and Healthy Award 2009

Bangkok--14 Jul--Thai Airways Thai Airways International Public Company Limited’s Cargo & Mail Commercial Department recently received the ‘National Occupational Safety and Healthy Award 2009’ from the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour. Mr. Pruet Boobphakam, THAI’s Managing Director, Cargo & Mail Commercial Department, said THAI Cargo has placed strong emphasis on the importance of environmental awareness as a global issue for airlines and for society. The Company’s environmental strategies have been used as a guideline for conducting THAI Cargo business, ensuring that its activities are conducted with consideration to environmental impact. The safety zone of the operation center includes its storage system, employee work path and warehouse management system. The area of concern covers the cargo handling system, for example inbound and transit cargo is sent to safe storage, which utilizes the “AS/RS — Automated Storage and Retrieval System” with barcode tracking and an inventory system reducing the risk of inventory error and minimizing cargo transfer time. The THAI Cargo terminal is divided into 4 main areas: Perishable Cargo, THAI and Alliances, Other Airlines and Express Cargo areas, which is certified by ISO 9001:2008 on its inventory system, warehouse and information distribution system. The cargo terminal’s OHSAS 18001 certification, high quality air circulation and safety equipment ensures that the company can handle cargo safely and securely, reducing the likelihood of accidents in work areas. THAI Cargo employees have worked hard to maintain the highest hygiene standards and product quality. A total of 90 security staff at chief level have registered with the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour, and have regularly attended the Company’s safety activities, i.e. annual first aid program, fire drill practice twice per annual, annual safety & healthy measurement and annual safety exhibition in order to increase employee awareness towards safety and environment issues in the workplace. In addition, all THAI Cargo staff must obtain an annual physical check-up based on work performance, according to Labour Protection Laws under the State Enterprise Labour Relations Board. THAI Cargo received the ‘National Occupational Safety and Health Award 2009’ from various criteria set by the Department of Labour Protection and Welfare, Ministry of Labour, as follows: - General information of an organization i.e. location, certifications, number of staff and safety control committee - Occupational Safety, Healthy and Environment Administration Policy in working area - Occupational Safety Management Policy - Occupational Healthy Management Policy - Occupational Environment Management Policy Apart from this achievement, THAI Cargo received recognition in 4 times of the Provincial Occupational Safety and Healthy Award, which represents the quality of THAI Cargo operations. Furthermore, THAI Cargo will emphasize development of services to meet international standards and will apply the OHSAS 18001 standard in its operation line.
