Bangkok--17 Jul--The Japan Foundation After its sold-out success of “We’re Gonna Go Dancing!!” in 2007, Japan Contemporary Dance Network (JCDN) will return with three new cutting edge creations from Japan, plus the work of local artists Thanapol Virulhakul and Vidura Amranand, to deliver again an exhilarating evening of dance at Patravadi Theatre on 14 August 2009. Japan Contemporary Dance Network is a Kyoto-based non-profit making organization aiming at building bridges among various dance communities. “We’re Gonna Go Dancing!!” originated as a nationwide touring project that selects to present works by artists form all over Japan. It grows from eight artists touring four cities in 2000 to forty two artists touring twenty-one cities in 2008. In 2007, it expanded to outreach to other Asian countries, taking up the role of Japan’s contemporary dance ambassador. The 2009 tour will visit five cities in the Mekong region: Chiang Mai, Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur, Hanoi and Phom Penn. A Multitude of Dance Performances in One Night The four works presented in “We’re Gonna Go Dancing!! 2009”, three from Japan and one from Thailand, form an interesting mix reflecting the contemporary dance scene in different parts of Asia. Maki Morishita “DEBUTANTE” At times graceful, at times hysterical, mostly playful — Morishita dances to a myriad of rhythms: gibberish, her own name, Ella Fitzgerald … in “Debutante”, her award-wining solo at the Solo ? Duo Competition of the Yokohama Dance Collection in 2004. The work has been performed in over 15 major cities in Japan and internationally in Seoul, Bologna and the “Full Moon Dance Festival” in Finland. (Hiroyuki Miura + Masanori Hoshika)x Haco “MUSINGAI” This is probably the most intriguing work in the selection. In “Musingai”, award-winning dancer-choreographer, avant-garde theatre M-Laboraroty founder Hiroyuki Miura , together with veteran dancer Masanori Hoshika, will peel off their skins of suits in a series of jagged, insect-like movements, evoking an otherworld that appears to be both savage and futuristic. Accompanying them is sound and voice artist Haco, who creates an unusual soundscape for the journey. This work will be further developed during the artists’ residence at Patravadi Theatre, and is selected to tour around Japan for the 10th Anniversary of “We’re Gonna Go Dancing!!” P’Lush?“HEADACHE” Three female dancers: Shuko Tamauchi, Yuki Sawada, Yui Yoshizawa, each with her own idiosyncrasies and dance vocabulary, will feature in this female dance trio choreographed by Masako Fukaya. “Headache” was first performed at “die pratze -Kagurazaka” in 2007 and joined "We're gonna go Dancing!! vol.8" in Yamaguchi and in Tottori in the same year. Thanapol Virulhakul + Vidura Amranand “UNKNOWN LANDSCAPE” After their first collaboration work “Warning” in Bangkok Bananas Contemporary Arts Festival, promising Thai dancer-choreographers Thanapol Virulhakul (a Butoh and tantric Buddhist ritual dancer practitioner) and Vidura Amranand (a graduate from New York’s prestigious Sarah Lawrence College) team up again to create this new work together with short film director Tossapol Boonsinsukh.
