Dr Molly Peifang Zhang has been named Managing Director of the SCG-DOW Group of Companies in Thailand. She is also Country Manager for The Dow Chemical Company’s operations in the country.
Dr Zhang relocates to Bangkok from Shanghai, where she was Vice President of Dow Technology Licensing & Catalyst business globally and head of Manufacturing for the Dow’s Asia Pacific region.
Dr Zhang will manage the activities of Dow’s various joint ventures in Thailand and drive the successful implementation of the Company’s significant new investments in Rayong province.
Commenting on her appointment, Dr Zhang said, “Due to our excellent partnership with Siam Cement Group, the growth of the regional market, and the availability of local talent, Thailand is a priority investment and business location for The Dow Chemical Company and our operations here anchor activities in the region.
We are committed to support our customer’s business growth by investing significant assets on the ground in the next few years.”
“I am especially pleased to see that we have the opportunity to implement environmentally friendly and state of art process and product technologies such as the Hydrogen Peroxide to Propylene Oxide (HPPO) process, specialty elastomer and a second solution polyethylene manufacturing plant in Thailand in the next two, three years in Map Ta Phut.”
Dr Zhang is no stranger to Thailand. She was last based here several years ago as Site Director leading Dow’s manufacturing operations in the Map Ta Phut industrial estate in Rayong province.
A native Shanghainese, Dr Zhang graduated in Germany. Since joining Dow Germany in 1989 as an engineer, Dr Zhang has worked as manufacturing managers for propylene oxide business in China and Freeport, Texas. Prior to her recent assignments, she also had experience in global technology and business management based in the US and in China.
Dr Zhang has a diploma in Chemistry and Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Technical University of Clausthal in Germany.
In 2007, Dow marked its 20th anniversary in Thailand, and 40th anniversary of its joint venture with the nation’s Siam Cement Group. Dow has grown from a business office into one of Thailand’s top 5 American investors. Today, the SCG-DOW Group and Dow Chemical Thailand have over 650 employees and continue to grow in organization and assets to meet its customer’s needs. The Dow Chemical Company’s recent acquisition of Rohm and Haas, a global specialty materials company with sales of $10 billion in 2008 and 15,000 employees worldwide, added another 70 employees to the team, and two plants in Map Ta Phut.
