Nobel Laureate Professor Joseph E. Stiglitz will deliver a lecture on “United Nations System and the economic crisis: towards a new global financial and economic architecture” at the UN Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) in Bangkok on 21 August.
His address — which is part of ESCAP’s Distinguished Person Lecture series — will take place at the UN Conference Center, 14.00 — 15.30 hours. It will be introduced by Dr. Noeleen Heyzer, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ESCAP, and followed by an open discussion.
Professor Stiglitz chairs the UN Commission of Experts on Reforms of the International Monetary and Financial System - often referred to as the Stiglitz Commission - which has been convened to review the workings of the global financial system and to suggest steps to be taken by member states to create a more sustainable and just global economic order in the context of the financial crisis.
Professor Stiglitz, the 2001 recipient of the Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences, is currently teaching at Columbia University, New York.
