mai-listed firms record Q2/2009 net profit of THB672 million

Bangkok--20 Aug--SET With 53 of 54 listed companies reporting, firms on Thailand’s Market for Alternative Investment (mai) had total Q2/2009 net profit of THB672 million (approx. USD19.74 million). Even though this was a drop of 18% over the same period last year, it showed good signs of improvement, rising by 24% over Q1/2009’s net profit excluding gains from investment and securities investment. Moreover, all sectors had firms enjoying net profit. As of June 30, 2009, total sales of mai-listed firms Q2/2009 were THB10.61 billion (approx. USD311.82 million), a 17% year-on-year (y-o-y) decrease. However, mai-listed companies show a good sign of improvement comparing to Q1/2009, where the net profit was dropped by 64% from Q1/2008 revealed SET Group Head, Issuer & Listing Chanitr Charnchainarong. The 40 mai-listed companies in Q2/2009 that recorded net profit accounted for 75% of total companies on mai, a rise from Q1/2009 where only 67% of listed firms enjoyed net profit. In H1/2009, mai-listed companies recorded total sales of THB22.04 billion (approx. USD647.67 million) and net profit of THB976 million (approx. USD28.67 million), y-o-y decreases of 11% and 42%, respectively. Moreover, 14 out of the 37 listed firms showing net profit recorded more net profit in H1/2009 than in H1/2008. Of these 14 companies, 6 had Q2/2009 net profit that exceeded that of both Q2/2008 and Q1/2009. These companies are Business Online PCL (BOL), Pylon PCL (PYLON), Salee Industry PCL (SALEE), Sherwood Chemicals PCL (SWC), Thai Nondestructive Testing PCL (TNDT), and Thai Plaspac PCL (TPAC). In particular, BOL and TNDT grew in both net profit and total sales, comparing to the same period last year and over Q1/2009,” said Mr. Chanitr. As of August 19, 2009 mai market capitalization reached THB28.61 billion (USD840.46 million), while the mai Index closed at 175.89.
