Bangkok--10 Sep--Hill & Knowlton Thailand DHL, the world’s leading logistics company, recently organized its annual Volunteer Day in Thailand to strengthen the spirit of volunteerism among employees. This year the focus of the company’s community outreach programme continues to focus on delivering “dream come true” moments to over 650 local children at four locations. About 500 DHL employees across three business units comprising DHL Express, DHL Global Forwarding and DHL Supply Chain spent a weekend taking part in the volunteer activities that were held at Wat Huay Jarakae School, Wangnoi Ayudhaya, Pre-school Child Development Center — Mitr Plook Sattha Community at Ladkrabang, and Samakkee Vithaya School at Pakkerd and Ban Kru Noi, which is a home to about 100 underprivileged children. The activities at the schools included revamping school buildings in bad condition and donating supplies to create better learning environment for the students while DHL volunteers at Ban Kru Noi organized fun activities, singing and dancing along with the children and donated financial support to fund the organization. This year every baht spent on this CSR activity was raised by the DHL employees themselves, with the total amount raised reaching approximately one million baht. Chananyarak Phetcharat, Managing Director, DHL Express Thailand and Indochina, said, “Sustainability is part of DHL’s business approach, and so is our CSR pillar. We believe that it is even more important for us to keep supporting our community during the current economic situation. This year our volunteers’ passion remains on education and well-being of children, who will contribute to the country’s future that we will all share. Through this meaningful volunteer project, we hope to inspire our colleagues to continue their individual voluntary efforts to make a positive contribution to our society and environment.” Vincent Yong, Chief Operating Officer and Deputy Managing Director of DHL Global Forwarding (Thailand) said, “DHL recognizes the importance of nurturing our children and offering them better opportunities to prepare them for a brighter future. Sharing the same commitment to making a positive difference in children’s lives, our employees worked magnificently together for this entire volunteer programme. They were actively involved not only in the practical activities but also in raising money to fund all that we did at each location. Our aim is to make DHL Volunteer Day 2009 a really successful community engagement event.” DHL volunteer activities made a big impact to the communities covered. Children living at Ban Kru Noi are happy to know that they still have a place to keep them safe with the financial support provided. Students at Wat Huay Jarakae School, Pre-school Child Development Center and Samakkee Vithaya School are excited with new school supplies and renovated facilities. As for DHL Volunteers, getting into the spirit of volunteerism was a priceless experience. Craig Hope-Johnstone, Country Manager, DHL Supply Chain Thailand said, “Personally, I am very pleased to be able to participate in our annual volunteer day. And, as a team, we believe that it is exceptionally important to support the Thai community in every way we can. Generally, all of us enjoy participating and feel that all benefit from the experience. We intend to continue to support this and many more community programs. In addition, we really appreciate the cooperation of the school principals and teachers as well as that of Kru Noi who provided us with opportunities to give back to the communities in which we are operating.” Following the success of the programme in Asia Pacific last year, DHL has extended the footprint of the activity to include Africa, Europe and Latin America this year. As part of DHL Volunteer Day activities this year, which runs from 01 to 06 September, more than 15,000 employees, customers and business partners in over 40 countries across Asia Pacific, Africa, Europe and Latin America have undertaken more than 70 community projects that support various local causes. These programmes deliver to the company’s corporate social responsibility pillars — Education, Environment and Disaster Management.
