The renowned Jeremy Monteiro International Trio is back in town and takes to the stage at The Living Room for a series of inspiring performances.
Dubbed the “King of Swing”, the virtuoso pianist will be accompanied by drummer, Shawn Kelley, and bassist, Therdsak Wongvichien. Join them for memorable nights of red hot jazz from October 1st - December 15th.
Jeremy Monteiro has made regular appearances at the Living Room since it opened and has been instrumental in establishing it as Bangkok’s premier jazz venue. Swing Magazine of Switzerland called him "one of the best exponents of Jazz Piano" after he performed with Monteiro Young and Holt at the prestigious Montreux Jazz Festival.
He has more than 20 jazz albums as leader and has played on numerous other jazz albums by other jazz artists, including one by Grammy Award winning jazz saxophonist Ernie Watts, which he also produced. Last year, Jeremy was featured on the legendary pianist Marian McPartland’s NPR radio program Piano Jazz, joining a long list of eminent guests, which have included Bill Evans and Oscar Peterson, two of Jeremy’s heroes. The edited version of the program was delivered automatically as a Podcast to the over 100 million people around the world who use the Apple iTunes software.
As well as being a professional musician, Jeremy is also a dedicated educator and is Visiting Chair of Jazz & Professor at LaSalle College of the Arts in Singapore, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Encouragement of the Arts, Manufactures and Commerce in the UK, and a Fellow of the London College of Music. He has received the pinnacle award in Arts Achievement in Singapore, the Cultural Medallion, the first jazz musician in Singapore to be given this accolade.
Jeremy will be accompanied by Shawn Kelley on drums. Born and raised in Syracuse, New York he studied jazz under the tutelage of Ron Carter, John Lewis, Gil Evans, and Sonny Igoe. After years of playing on the New York jazz scene, Shawn relocated to Asia where the highly versatile drummer is in high demand. The outstanding trio is completed by Therdsak Wongvichien, considered one of Thailand’s leading exponents of the bass. He has also toured on the international circuit, appearing at the Tokyo Jazz Festival and the Taiwan Jazz Festival.
