Traditional, laid back Chiang Rai is waking up to an inviting new art venue christened artSpace@leMeridien Chiangrai at the 5-star deluxe resort, Le Meridien, borne of the inspiration of well-known art consultant, Jaffee Yee who is also its curator.
The inaugural exhibition of stunning monochrome fine art photographs by five top international photo artists -- Monique Stauder, Ralf Tooten, Martin Reeves, Brendan Linane, and Boaz Zippor -- will be opened by Nakorn Pongnoi, director of the Mae Fah Luang Art and Cultural Park on Saturday November 7, 2009 and the show can be viewed till December 6, 2009.
Latitude 19+ offers a rare opportunity to view the varied styles and subject matter of this group of celebrated Bangkok-based artists each, commanding his or her own unique manner, technique and focus. Stauder is famous for her work to be included in a soon to be launched “Latitude Zero” series with a book prefaced by world-renowned writer Paul Thoreux; Tooten’s “Eyes of Wisdom” reflexes the wise eyes of some of the world’s most famous personalities, including the Dalai Lama and Pope John Paul; Reeves’s soft, dream-like series of the hill tribes in the Greater Mekong region; Linane’s intriguing, abstract renditions of motorbikes and Zippor’s nostalgic and captivating series of old Siam.
