Pop-Art Re-Invented
Symon is back to Bangkok with his latest exhibition, entitled “The Seven Year Itch”. Reminiscent of an era with pop-art and Marilyn Monroe, Symon uses vibrant colors to put his silk-screens to life, capturing Marilyn in different scenes and stages of her life.
Symon has lived in Bali since 1978 after traveling the world for nearly 2 decades, and is best known for his bold portraits of young Balinese men, done in vivid tropical colors and often to an exaggerated scale, as in his series of Big Heads. His energetic and sometimes whimsical take on Balinese life and landscapes makes a refreshing change from the more sedate traditional views so popular with many other Ubud artists.
“When I paint them it’s art and when you buy them it’s history”, is one of Symon’s many catchphrases. Become a part of history and don’t miss one of his most exciting and colorful shows in years!
