Bangkok--24 Nov--DC Consultants and Marketing Communications Dharma Land Co Ltd will next year open White Village, a housing estate in Pakchong with a hilltop stupa containing relics of the Lord Buddha, a Dharma practice centre and library, a boutique hotel, a vegetarian restaurant and a holistic health centre. Scheduled to open by the end of 2010, the 500 million baht White Village is situated on 450 rai of land in beautiful mountain scenery and will create a peaceful residential community for dharma practitioners. Mr Nopprakao Chaiyaburin, Managing Director of Dharma Land Co Ltd, said that he had studied dharma since he was very young and had always wished to see Thai people studying the teachings of Lord Buddha for their peace of mind. When he entered the real estate business, he conceived the idea of building a ‘city of dharma’ where practitioners could come together to live in peace and harmony. In addition to residential accommodation, White Village will have a 50 million baht Dharma centre on 10 rai of land which will be able to accommodate 200-300 practitioners. There will be a stupa of relics of the Lord Buddha on top of the hill, a healthy boutique hotel located on 10 rai of land to serve the needs of guests, mostly healthy enthusiasts. Dharma library and vegetarian food restaurant will be there too, as well as health centre. “The White Village is the first and only housing project in Thailand to set rules for selecting its residents,” said Noppakao. “The people who want to buy a house there must be followers of dharma or should practice Vipassana meditation, as my intention is to create a peaceful community where people can share with their neighbours and find sustainable happiness in their lives.” Noppakao’s grandmother is Dr Siri Karinchai, who is greatly respected as an active vipassana meditation master and renowned for her devotion to Buddhist teaching. She is the one who initiated the 8 days 7 nights vipassana meditation course. Dr Siri was the inspiration for his interest in dharma. His studies began when he was seven and continued until he was 19, when he has attained a level at which he could teach others. He still teaches dharma today, and once had a shop called ‘Carcare-Coffee-Fortuneteller on Soi Senanikhom 1, which became a centre for a community of dharma enthusiasts. Today, he owns a construction company responsible for several major projects such as Bang Pakong Power plant and Amornphan village. Mr Tanawat Wongtanutam, a member of Dharma Land Company’s executive board said that the 450-rai White Village was divided into 99 plots, covering an area of 1 to 15 rai. It offers five types and sizes of house starting from 100 square metre. Prices start from 2 to 10 million baht each. The houses are modern in style, but every one is specifically designed to blend with nature. A significant feature of the estate is that in every unit there will be a spacious meditation room, and there will be a stream flowing through most of the units. Security has also been a priority, and there is a large perimeter wall surrounding the whole area with a 24-hour security system. The White Village project is scheduled for completion in the last quarter of 2010, and units can now be reserved.
