The Royal Over-Seas League (ROSL) Thailand has announced the winner of the Young Artist of Thailand Competition 2009 at a special Awards function held at The Sukhothai Bangkok on Saturday, November 21.
Ms. Duangtawon Rintanalert, a 16 year old student from Shrewsbury International School received the highest score and was announced the Winner of the Young Artist of Thailand 2009 competition for her painting “Light above the Canopy”.
A total of 97 entries for the competition were accepted from aspiring young artists across the Kingdom of Thailand. The Judging panel then selected the artwork of 22 semi-finalists whose work was exhibited for the public at The Sukhothai Bangkok during 16 — 21 November, with the final selection made on 20th November by an independent panel of judges including Mr. Steven Pettifor (Chief Judge), Professor Kata Sangkhae, Ms. Louise Truslow, Mr. Mike Croft and Professor Suporn Printaragul.
Apart from the trophy given by ROSL Vice-Patron Mom Ratchawong Sarisdiguna Kitiyakara, Duangtawon also won the cash prize of Baht 100,000 including two tickets to London to exhibit her winning piece at the Overseas House London.
The competition, now in its 3rd year, was made possible through the generous support of Transearch, Foodland, Bangkok Post, Harrow International, The Sukhothai Bangkok, Jotun, PCS, Grayling and TK Park.
Commenting on the standard of entries, Royal Over-Seas League of Thailand Chairman, Mr Jim Napier said the creativity and artistic skills of the entrants continued to lift the benchmark higher each year.
“It was particularly gratifying to see students from upcountry schools also entering the competition. We hope their commitment will be an example to others in future years and lift the numbers of entrants from outside Bangkok even further. Everyone whose entry was accepted should be proud of their achievement,” said Mr Napier.
