On 26th November 2009, KART (Kerry Asia Road Transport), a direct subsidiary of Kerry Logistics Network, helped a prestigious Chinese telecom equipment company - one of the largest in the world - transport its products to Vientiane in containers, all by road transportation.
The inaugural shipment represents an important milestone for Kerry and shippers in China. It is set to change the way many move their goods to South East Asia by going away from the traditional land-sea system to a more direct land-only system.
In less than 6 days the container shipment travelled by land from the shipper’s factory in Dongguan (China) and was transported via Shenzhen (China) and Guangxi (China) before crossing the Friendship Border (Chinese and Vietnamese border). From there the shipment headed towards the Cau Treo Border (Vietnamese and Laos border). It then entered Laksao (Laos) before arriving in Vientiane.
Due to the success of this first shipment, the shipper’s management booked another shipment with KART, and stated that they will gradually change from the traditional way of sea-land delivery to this more direct all-land transport mode.
Mr. Alex Ng, Assistant General Manager of KART, said “This shipment marks an important milestone for Kerry and shippers in China. It shows how a China-based logistics company with extensive Southeast Asian Network can help its customers open up new markets in Indo-china. In this case, their shipment did not even need to be loaded or unloaded for a second time at any point, the cargo were directly delivered to Laos from Shenzhen all the way by truck. KART is one of the very few companies who can cover the whole route by its own fleet and support it with its own offices and staff.”
