The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET)’s Foundation honored Ms. Chalermsri Konpraneat, a librarian in Phitsanulok, northern Thailand, for her outstanding work in developing libraries. Her development of the library has served as a role model for other libraries in the north. She was also an active supporter networking of libraries in the Phitsanulok and nearby provinces.
“Ms. Chalermsri was honored with the Prof. Khunying Manmas Chavalit award, supported by SET Foundation, for library development for the year 2009,” revealed SET Foundation board member and Secretary Patareeya Benjapolchai.
“Presenting the social recognition award in library field is considered a support for youth education to have quality learning center, which is an important foundation in developing a person and significant driving force to develop the country. SET’s objective in giving this award is to help inspire others to sacrifice themselves to the society,” said Ms. Patareeya.
“Ms. Chalermsri is a good role model for librarian since she brought knowledge and abilities to develop a library to be a learning center for youth, general public and prisoners. Moreover, she expanded library services to a wider target. Thai Library Association selected this year’s outstanding contributor for library development, using transparent criteria, by seven committee members, consisting of five committees from Thai Library Association and two SET Foundation members,” revealed Thai Library Association Chairman Prof. Khunying Manmas Chavalit.
Currently, Ms. Chalermsri is the head of public library in Phitsanulok. She devoted herself in developing an innovative system for her library, which has been widely accepted as a learning center for the public and being a role model for other libraries in Phitsanulok and nearby provinces. She also gave opportunities for the disadvantaged to read and kept worn books in good shape, which is in accordance with H.R.H Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn’s wish to preserve old and rare books for later generations.
Moreover, Ms. Chalermsri helped build careers and supported activities to fight drugs for prisoners, helping them concentrate on reading books, and increased their income.
Prof. Khunying Manmas Chavalit Award is one of the six awards in SET Foundation's social recognition project, which supports and encourages those who are devoted to society.
