FedEx went beyond Rachael Millard’s wildest dreams when two representatives of the company turned up to her house in a branded van to surprise her for her 21st birthday. Rachael, a loyal supporter of the company, has had a “weird obsession”, with FedEx ever since she watched the Castaway movie (starring Tom Hanks) as a young child. She found the storyline very inspiring, which portrayed FedEx’s extensive commitment to its customers when the main character in the film delivers a package four years after being involved in a plane crash on a deserted island.
The previous 12 months have been a difficult time for Rachael; she has experienced unexplainable seizures so frequently that she is now house-bound. Unable to host a 21st birthday party, Rachael’s mother called FedEx on the off-chance she could purchase a model FedEx truck for her birthday cake. However the family was blown away when FedEx promised to surprise Rachael by visiting in person on the Saturday morning.
Rachael was taken for a ride in the FedEx truck with Senior Operations Manager, Lee Davies, and FedEx Courier, Richard Hale, who, she said, were so passionate about their roles at FedEx that “their faces lit up when they spoke about it”. She was also presented with a FedEx box full of merchandise.
Rachael can’t thank the company enough: “FedEx completed one of my dreams,” said Rachael. “It made one of my hardest years turn to one of my best.”
