Electrolux Establishes Thailand as a Major Production Hub with BHT225 Million Investment

Bangkok--25 Feb--Spark Communications Electrolux, a global leader in home appliances and a worldwide leader in fabric care, will invest 225 million baht in its Rayong factory, doubling its capacity and making it one of the company’s key hubs for washing machine production globally. Electrolux will invest in a new production line for front load washing machines and thereby tripling the capacity for front load washing machine production in Rayong. The new investment will create 300 new jobs at the Rayong facility and will establish Rayong as a major production hub for washing machines. The factory, which currently employs 650 staff, also produces top load washing machines and dryers. The factory will have a capacity of in total over 1 million units in 2012. The Rayong plant caters to the markets of Australia, New Zealand, South East Asia, China and India. Once the new platform has been developed, the company also expects to expand to European markets. Gunilla Nordstrom, Head of Electrolux Major Appliances Asia Pacific, said that one of the many reasons for the investment was the growth of markets in Asia. “We are the leader in front load washing machines and we aim to further strengthen our position in the segment in the Asia Pacific region. Our factory in Rayong has a strong research and development facility and has produced products of excellence for a number of years.” “With the established infrastructure and cost competitiveness, we believe that the investment will drive our business to new heights of success,” she said. Sutti Manokitjarunman, General Manager of Electrolux Thailand, said that the increased capacity and investment in the Thai market was a confident sign of the company’s commitment not only to Thailand but to the region. “The investment in Rayong factory expansion marks another significant milestone as the leading fabric care expert and will allow us to reinforce our leading position as the top washing machine brand in Asia,” Sutti added. Marc Absillis, General Manager of Electrolux’s Rayong Factory, said “Production in Rayong tripled from 2007 to 2009 and we expect a further significant increase in production in 2010.
