Bangkok--29 Mar--Weber Shandwick Thai users are now having a better chance of getting a username of their choice with Window Live’s newly expanded list of domains. Users can access their email, instant messenger and other Windows Live services using a Windows Live ID ending with hotmail.co.th. Not only does this make it easier for people to identify fellow Thai users, but it also increases their chances of getting their favoured Windows Live ID. This is yet another way in which Microsoft is enhancing its local offering and allowing users to express their unique identities. Windows Live properties such as Messenger and Hotmail, already offering full local language capabilities, now allow users to have a Hotmail address that is localized as well. The domain expansion is also the result of the popularity of Hotmail among Thai users since it recently received the Super Brands award two years in a row. Craig Law-Smith, Marketing Director, Online Services Group, Southeast Asia, said, “Hotmail has been around for almost 15 years. It is one of the largest e-mail services worldwide with more than 375 million active customers across the globe. As such, first-choice personal usernames are a scarce resource. Users looking to use their own name as their user ID in the past may have had to add on a 123 or other numbers at the end of their name, leaving them disappointed and with a name that was not their first choice. We recognise this and have done what we can to provide a solution for our consumers.” This expansion will allow Hotmail users to transition their outdated or complicated usernames to a more personal ID appropriate for their current lifestyle, without the hassle of spending time familiarising themselves with an entirely new interface. “Many of our existing users have grown with us from their teenage years when they had fun Windows Live IDs, to young adults. These ‘fun’ Windows Live IDs may not be practical for use in the working world and users need new, more suitable Windows Live IDs. The domain expansion will address the need for more flexibility and choice in username options, so that users can now select a name they want, on an email platform that best suits them,” added Law-Smith. Windows Live recently improved their Windows Live Hotmail services to give users an even better web-based email product. The upgrade not only made Hotmail faster, with ever growing storage and a span filtering feature, but it also included POP aggregation, which meant users can combine multiple e-mail accounts, calendars and contacts within a single Hotmail address.
