AirAsia Joins hands with Macau-Thailand Chamber Of Commerce to revive Thai tourism

Bangkok--10 Jun--AirAsia MACAU- AirAsia in collaboration with the Thai Ministry of Commerce and the Macau Special Administrative Region, join hands to establish the Macau-Thailand Chamber Of Commerce in a bid to attract more Chinese travelers and revive Thai tourism in the latter half of the year. Tassapon Bijleveld, Chief Executive Officer of Thai AirAsia, stated that Macau’s strategic location as a gateway to southern China makes it an ideal place to attract Chinese travelers with high purchasing power. Along with a strong tourism and service sector, Macau’s expanding economy makes it a promising destination to cooperate with in terms of improving the Thai economy. The CEO announced that new direct flights from Phuket to Macau can be expected in the near future. “The establishment of the Thai-Macau Chamber of Commerce is an important step in collaboration between the government and related sectors. ThaiAirAsia is genuinely trying to revive the Thai economy by attracting a large volume of visitors from China and Macau, in order to increase tourist spending in Thailand. Our role at Thai AirAsia would be to act as a mediator in continuously bringing tourists into the country through our quality service and promotional campaigns”, said Mr. Tassapon. AirAsia’s Bangkok-Macau service began with only one flight per day in July 2004. Due to increasing demand, two daily flights were available in October 2004 and three daily flights were available by December 2005. By December 2007, travelers could conveniently choose from up to four flights per day while the average flight occupancy rate was at 82% in 2009. In addition to the Phuket-Macau route, new AirAsia flights from Phuket-Bali and Phuket-Ubon Ratchathani will also soon be available, according to Mr. Tassapon.
