Bangkok--11 Jun--Agoda
Agoda, Asia's global hotel booking site and part of Nasdaq-listed Priceline.com, today announces special hotel rates for the 13th Annual Mud Festival in Boryeong, South Korea. Held this year from July 17 to 27, the event will attract around two million visitors to the sleepy seaside town of Boryeong, filling the beach with contests, games and all manner of mud-related fun.
Boryeong and its twin city, Daecheon, are located on the shores of the Yellow Sea, around two-and-a-half hours by bus or train from Seoul Airport. This beautiful region features wide, clean beaches and conifer-covered mountains, and is a favorite for domestic holiday-makers drawn to its lively beachfront promenade, great climate and famous mineral-rich mud.
The Boryeong Mud Festival is a 10-day celebration of this therapeutic mud. The mud is used in a range of locally-produced cosmetics, and claims to nourish the skin, making it smoother, firmer and more elastic. Participants at the festival can enjoy all the benefits of Boryeong mud in a carnival atmosphere, joining a complete schedule of games, rides and competitions.
During the daylight hours, the program includes a Mud Marathon, Mud Wrestling Competition, a Super Mud Slide, Mud Painting and Mud Massage, plus a yacht parade and a street parade. At night, the celebrations continue with fireworks displays and lively dance parties where the beachfront is transformed into a muddy mosh-pit.
When the mud fights are over, travelers can explore the myriad attractions of Chungcheongnam-do province. Close to the festival site, the 'mystic sea road' of Muchango Beach offers a unique way of experiencing local Boryeong life. This winding 1500-meter walking trail becomes accessible for two hours a day when the tide ebbs, and visitors can join local families as they stroll along the rocks, taking photos and collecting fresh shellfish.
The nearby island of Anmeneon-do is also a beautiful diversion. This is a popular destination for both domestic and international travelers who visit for its white sandy beaches and pristine pine forests. Taean Haean National Park is also close by, offering some of the most unspoiled coastline in South Korea. Visitors can enjoy delicious seafood and tranquil stretches of coast, like the three-kilometer long Man Li Po beach.
The perfect end to a South Korea vacation — and the perfect contrast to mud bathing on Boryeong beach — is a few nights in stylish Seoul. This modern, cosmopolitan city is a vibrant combination of technology and tradition, where travelers can cap off their stay with a spot of high-end shopping or a temple tour.
Agoda has secured some super rates on hotels in Seoul and Chungcheongnam-do province, so that travelers headed to the Boryeong Mud Festival can enjoy great savings.
