Mr. Christophe L.M. Caron, Vice President of Sofitel South East Asia & India and General Manager of Sofitel Bangkok Silom, is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Jovi Kay-Yan Cheng as Master Chinese Chef of Shanghai 38, Chinese Restaurant.
A Hong Kong native, Mr. Jovi Kay-Yan Cheng first worked as an Executive Chinese Chef in Bangkok in 1997. He brings his 30 years of experience in Chinese cooking to Sofitel Bangkok Silom as the new Master Chinese Chef in-charge of the award-winning Shanghai 38, Chinese Restaurant. He has worked in many of the most prestigious restaurants and hotels in South East Asia such as the Grand Hyatt Hong Kong Hotel, China, the Grand Hyatt Bali Hotel, Indonesia, the Swissotel Nai Lert Park Bangkok, Thailand and the Mandarin Oriental Dhara Dhevi Hotel in Chiang Mai, Thailand.
Prior to this appointment, he was an Executive Chinese Chef at the Pacific City Club in Bangkok, Thailand. Today he is considered among the top Chinese chefs to reckon with. At Shanghai 38, Chef Jovi will create the finest new a-la-carte Cantonese dishes that reflect the true spirit of regional Chinese cuisine as well as very elegant contemporary modern Cantonese dishes to sit alongside Western delicacies.
