Thai Airways International Public Company Limited (THAI) announced that it is donating frequent flyer miles to the Chaipattana Foundation. Dr. Sumet Tantivejkul, Secretary-General of the Chaipattana Foundation, and Mr. Pravich Rattanapian, THAI Chairman of Executive Board, presided over the event at THAI’s Head Office.
The Chaipattana Foundation was initiated by His Majesty the King, who serves as Honorary Chairman, with Her Royal Highness Princess Sirindhorn as Chairman. The aim of the Foundation is to help people through development activities as well as the conservation of natural resources and the environment, with the people's well-being and happiness as the goal.
In line with the “Sustainable Development” principles as emphasized by His Majesty the King, THAI established the “THAI Mileage Donation to Chaipattana Foundation” initiative so that Royal Orchid Plus (ROP) members can participate in supporting social projects. The donated miles will be used for foundation volunteers, development experts and researchers to travel on THAI, in bringing their expertise to the development projects in Thailand.
Since mid-May 2010, THAI ROP, the frequent flyer program, has been offering members whose miles will expire to donate their miles to the Chaipattana Foundation.
At today’s event, Mr. Pravich Rattanapian said that THAI would donate eight million miles already given by ROP members. The target is 15 million miles, and THAI hopes ROP members will donate a further miles for a worthy cause. From today until 30 September 2010, ROP members may continue to donate a minimum of 500 miles via THAI website at www.thaiairways.com/rop.
