ตามที่เมื่อวันที่ 3 สิงหาคม 2557 ได้เกิดเหตุแผ่นดินไหวขนาด 6.5 ตามมาตราริกเตอร์ ในหลายอำเภอของมณฑลยูนนาน สาธารณรัฐประชาชนจีน ส่งผลให้มีผู้เสียชีวิต สูญหาย บาดเจ็บ และมีการอพยพประชาชนเป็นจำนวนมากนั้น พลเอกประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา หัวหน้าคณะรักษาความสงบแห่งชาติ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนายกรัฐมนตรีจีน ดังนี้
“Excellency,
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, I have the honour to convey our deepest condolences to you and the Chinese people on the massive casualties, injuries and damages to property caused by the earthquake that struck Zhaotong City and Qujing City of Yunnan province on 3 August 2014.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the families who have lost their loved ones. Thailand stands ready to assist China, in any possible way, at this difficult time.
