ด้วยเมื่อวันที่ ๒๔ กรกฎาคม ๒๕๕๗ เครื่องบินของสายการบินแอร์แอลจีเรีย เที่ยวบินที่ AH5017 ได้ประสบอุบัติเหตุตกที่ประเทศมาลี ส่งผลให้มีผู้เสียชีวิตเป็นชาวฝรั่งเศสรวม ๕๑ ราย ในการนี้ นายสีหศักดิ์ พวงเกตุแก้ว ปลัดกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ปฏิบัติราชการแทนรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงรัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศฝรั่งเศสต่อเหตุการณ์ดังกล่าว ดังนี้
It is with profound sadness that I have learnt of the tragic crash of Air Algerie Flight AH5017 in northern Mali, while en route from Ouagadougou to Algiers on 24 July 2014, and the loss of 116 lives, including 51 French nationals.
On behalf of the people of Thailand, I would like to convey to Your Excellency and, through you, to the families of the victims, our deepest condolences and sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families for their irreparable loss.
