ตามที่เกิดเหตุแผ่นดินไหวที่วัดความสั่นสะเทือนได้ระดับ ๗.๘ ที่ประเทศเอกวาดอร์ เมื่อวันที่ ๑๖ เมษายน ๒๕๕๙ ซึ่งสร้างความเสียหายต่อชีวิตและทรัพย์สินจำนวนมาก นั้น
พลเอก ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา นายกรัฐมนตรี ได้มีสารถึงนายราฟาเอล โกเรอา (H.E. Mr. Rafael Corea) ประธานาธิบดีเอกวาดอร์ เพื่อแสดงความเสียใจในนามของรัฐบาลและประชาชนไทยต่อรัฐบาลและประชาชนเอกวาดอร์ที่ประสบความสูญเสียจากเหตุแผ่นดินไหวในครั้งนี้ และแสดงความพร้อมของประเทศไทยที่จะช่วยเหลือเอกวาดอร์ในช่วงเวลาเช่นนี้ ดังปรากฏรายละเอียดตามข้อความ ดังนี้
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, I would like to extend my deep condolences and heartfelt sympathy to the Government of the Republic of Ecuador and all the Ecuadorian citizens who lost their relatives, friends and loved ones, and those affected by the earthquake which struck the country on 16 April 2016. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Ecuadorian people, and Thailand stands ready to assist Ecuador during this difficult time.

นอกจากนี้ นายดอน ปรมัตถ์วินัย รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนายกีเยาเม ลอง (H.E. Mr. Guillaume Long) รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศและการเคลื่อนย้ายประชากรเอกวาดอร์ โดยแสดงความห่วงใยต่อประชาชนเอกวาดอร์ที่ได้รับผลกระทบ ทั้งนี้ ประเทศไทยพร้อมให้ความช่วยเหลือ เพื่อให้เอกวาดอร์สามารถผ่านพ้นและฟื้นฟูกลับสู่สภาวะปกติโดยเร็ว ดังปรากฏรายละเอียดตามข้อความ ดังนี้
I was saddened to learn of the tragic loss of lives and great damage caused by the earthquake which hit the northwestern coastal areas of Ecuador on 16 April 2016. I wish to convey to Your Excellency and, through you, to those affected by the dreadful disaster, the Thai people’s sincere sympathy and condolences. Thailand stands ready to help Ecuador to overcome this hard time and to recover soonest.
