ตามที่ได้เกิดเหตุแผ่นดินไหวที่เมืองชาวก์ ภาคมะกวย ทางตอนกลางของประเทศเมียนมา เมื่อวันที่ ๒๔ สิงหาคม ๒๕๕๙ ทำให้มีผู้ได้รับบาดเจ็บและเสียชีวิต รวมทั้งก่อให้เกิดความเสียหายต่อโบราณสถานของเมียนมา นั้น
พลเอก ประยุทธ์ จันทร์โอชา นายกรัฐมนตรี และนายดอน ปรมัตถ์วินัย รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศ ได้มีสารแสดงความเสียใจถึงนายติน จ่อ ประธานาธิบดีเมียนมา และนางออง ซาน ซู จี รัฐมนตรีว่าการกระทรวงการต่างประเทศเมียนมา ดังนี้

I was saddened by the report of recent damages and loss of lives caused by the earthquake in Central Myanmar on 24 August 2016, including the destruction of pagodas and religious structures in Bagan.
On behalf of the Royal Thai Government and the people of Thailand, I wish to express my deep sympathy to Your Excellency and, through you, to the affected families. The Thai Government pledges its readiness to render assistance to the Myanmar Government in the recovery efforts and restoration of the ancient sites.

I have learned with sorrow the news of the loss of lives and damages to cultural properties, including ancient sites and religious structures caused by the earthquake that struck Central Myanmar on 24 August 2016. I wish to convey to Your Excellency our sympathy and condolences and, through you, to those affected by this earthquake. I am confident that Myanmar will recover soonest from this challenge. Thailand stands ready to provide assistance to Myanmar, our close friend and neighbour, in any way we can.
