Bangkok--24 Oct--Siam PR Consultant Dow Thailand together with the Office of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate, the Industrial Estate Authority of Thailand, 24 industrial manufacturers in Map Ta Phut and Ban Chang districts as well as other volunteers recently joined hands to clean up Mae Rum Pueng Beach, from the area around Lan Hin Khao to the end of the bay, and Namrin-Payoon beaches, which cover a distance of 10.4 kilometers altogether. Staged as part of the 12th International Coastal Cleanup Day, the cleaning event was conceived with intent to maintain the attractiveness and cleanliness of Rayong’s beaches and was able to collect some 12 tons of garbage. Mr. Tod Sutton, Site Director of Dow Thailand, said, “Dow Thailand has been consecutively supporting the International Coastal Cleanup Day for 12 years since it became a global partner of Ocean Conservancy, the initiator of the this event, in 2003. This year, we worked with the Office of the Map Ta Phut Industrial Estate and 24 local businesses and organizations in Rayong’s Map Ta Phut and Ban Chang districts and gathered around 3,000 volunteers consisting of employees of Dow Thailand and those other organizations as well as local people to clean up Mae Rum Pueng and Namrin-Payoon beaches in Rayong, which cover a total distance of 10.4 kilometers. The collected garbage, weighing 12,136 kilograms, will be classified. The garbage data will then be sent to the international coastal cleanup agency in the U.S. to be processed with data from other countries in order to develop ways to solve the waste issue and create awareness about sustainable coastal conservation.” “The organizing of the garbage collection event on the International Coastal Cleanup Day is in line with our dedication to protect our planet and the aspiration to “set the standard for sustainability” to make the world a safer, healthier, and greener place. We also want to stimulate change that develops from a local level to an international level. We hope the activity has benefited local communities in Rayong, created awareness about coastal conservation among the locals, students, visitors and business owners there, and promoted sustainable tourism in the province,” Mr. Sutton said. Mr. Thani Samartkij, Rayong Governor, said, “For the past 12 years, we have received great cooperation from businesses in Rayong as they recognize the importance of engagement, awareness raising, and showing commitment to the conservation of Rayong’s coasts by joining this activity. The activity reflects the unity of the public and private sectors, the local communities, and the young people in Rayong, all of whom are aware of the importance of beach cleanup and environmental protection.” The 12th International Coastal Cleanup Day, or ICC Day, is the world’s biggest environmental activity that thousands of volunteers are altogether engaged to remove trash from the world’s beaches, lakes, oceans, and waterways. The event is held annually on the 3rd Saturday of September with intent to mutually conserve our seas and oceans which are our precious resources.
