EJEC President visits AIT, seeks greater technical and academic partnership

Bangkok--24 Nov--Asian Institute of Technology Eight-Japan Engineering Consultants (EJEC), which recently offered one scholarship to a student to pursue a Master’s program at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), has sought to strengthen its academic and technical partnership with AIT. Visiting AIT a day prior to the formal launch of their Thailand office in Bangkok, EJEC president, Mr. Yuji Kotani, reiterated the company’s interest in the Institute. EJEC had signed an agreement with AIT for grant of a scholarship to an AIT student in September 2014. On 12 November, the EJEC President himself led an eight-member delegation to visit AIT and learn more about the Institute. Prof. Kazuo Yamamoto, Vice President for Resource Development, AIT, thanked EJEC for its support to AIT, stating that both organizations can look towards strengthening their relationship, particularly since EJEC is now formally opening its office in Thailand . Prof. Pennung Warnitchai of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET) proposed that EJEC and AIT could jointly organize a one-day seminar where both organizations could showcase their expertise. The EJEC delegation identified structural engineering, earthquakes and tsunami, risk assessment, disaster management, infrastructure design, waste management and renewable energy as their areas of interest. Dr. Gabrielle Groves, Head, External Relations and Communications Office (ERCO), AIT, mentioned that the partnership between AIT and Government of Japan goes back five decades. One hundred and thirty faculty from Japan have served AIT as seconded faculty, and so far 900 AIT students have been supported by Japan. Mr. Kotani was accompanied by senior EJEC officials including Dr. Ryoji Isoyama, Executive Director; Mr. Yukiyoshi Kawajiri, Executive Director; Mr. Atsuyuki Nakaseko, Head of International Department; Mr. Kazuo Yakata, President, EJ Business Partners Co., Ltd.; Mr. Sakae Nakamura, Representative Office Manager, Bangkok Representative Office; Ms. Erina Kan, Engineering staff, International Department; and Mr. Taisuke Odera, Representative, Bangkok Representative Office.
