New Zealand is the most accessible study destination: IDP survey

General News Thursday November 27, 2014 11:03 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--27 Nov--Baldwin Boyle Group Education New Zealand (ENZ) today welcomed survey findings that showed international students from Asia and the Middle East – including students from Thailand – believe New Zealand is the most accessible study destination, supported by welcoming government policies. The latest Buyer Behaviour research survey from global education agency IDP revealed international students thought New Zealand has the most welcoming government student visa policies, ahead of Canada, Australia, the United States of America (USA) and United Kingdom (UK). In December 2013, the New Zealand government made changes to the work rights of international students, making it easier for international students to work while studying. For example, unlimited work rights have been given to international PhD and Masters by research students, and more international students became eligible to work full-time during their holidays. Ziena Jalil, ENZ South and South East Asia Regional Director said: “New Zealand prides itself on its ‘work-ready’ graduates. New Zealand qualifications are recognised globally and teaching methods emphasise hands-on experience as well as theory. Our education system encourages students to think creatively in a supportive environment.” The survey of 1,000 students from Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Philippines, Singapore, China, India, Bangladesh and Middle East also found that international students believe New Zealand is number one in terms of affordability and safety, alongside Canada. “We were the first country in the world to introduce a Code of Pastoral Care for International Students, which institutions must sign up to in order to enrol international students. The Code provides numerous safeguards for students to ensure they receive a high quality education and experience in New Zealand.” The survey also revealed that students believe studying overseas is worth the effort to gain better knowledge and skills than at home, a good job, and higher salaries. “All of New Zealand’s eight universities feature in the top 550 institutions of the 2014 QS World University Rankings. For international students, it is this global recognition and portability of New Zealand’s qualifications that are keenly sought after,” Ms Jalil said. Members of the public, students and parents who are interested in planning their children’s future education can check out 15 secondary schools from New Zealand and get insights on studying in New Zealand at the 28th TIECA World High School Fair on 29 November from 11.00-17.00 hrs at the Dusit Thani Hotel, Bangkok.
