Bangkok--22 Dec--Vivaldi In an effort to address critical employability issues every student faces upon graduating, Stamford International University hosted a round-table on the topic “What does it take for students to be globally employable and what exactly does this mean for the fresh graduate?” The round-table was facilitated by Sir Drummond Bone, Master of Balliol College Oxford and the Chairman of Stamford University Council and Piti Sithi-amnuai, a member of the Bangkok Bank Board of Directors and member of the Laureate Thailand Advisory Board. Gilles Mahe, CEO of Laureate Thailand, introduced the round-table and addressed challenges faced by both graduating students and potential employers: “We want our students to find the right job following graduation to properly prepare them for professional life. Only around 20% of universities are effectively able to reach out to industry, and so the need to create a strong connection between the educational sector and the employment sector is paramount. It’s a great opportunity for Stamford students to be able to reach out to industry leaders and create a genuine two-way discussion to improve professional outcomes on both sides.” Sir Drummond Bone, Master of Balliol College Oxford and the Chairman of Stamford University Council, said, “Students typically leave university and enter into employer training, yet its two-folded success hinges on the university providing exceptional soft skill support, such as in teamwork, communication, reliability and problem-solving. The work environment has typically been quite different to the scenarios taught at university, and so this close partnership between Stamford and key employers from the industry creates superior graduate outcomes for Stamford students and hiring organizations.” Piti Sithi-amnuai, member of the Bangkok Bank Board of Directors and honorary guest at the round-table, represented the banking industry from the employer’s perspective, noting, “We prefer to employ graduates from the local education resource pool, as one of the things that is very important to Bangkok Bank in the context of a graduate employer is building a long-term trust between the student and the employer. We want young people to stay with us and develop their career over many years. To be able to connect with Stamford students is a privilege, and gives us the opportunity to express our commitment to developing student outcomes. Stamford is a leader in the Thailand educational sector, and demonstrates its commitment and close partnership with industry through this round-table and ongoing outreach and connection to industry.” Students also had an opportunity to express their concerns and detail their personal challenges, with recent graduates describing their successful journeys into employment, in an effort to enhance the outcomes of other Stamford students prior to their graduation. Stamford International University, a part of the Laureate International Universities network, has students from 80 different countries. The round-table is part of an ongoing commitment to ensure strong graduate outcomes and prepare every graduate for the highly competitive employment market.
