Discounts and prizes galore for international and local Visa cardholders during Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2012
Shopaholics and travel enthusiasts should get packing and take advantage of attractive Visa cardholder discounts and rewards at the annual Amazing Thailand Grand Sale organized by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) and supported by Visa.
To kick-start the annual shopping extravaganza, Visa and TAT have launched a series of promotions and prizes[1] for all shoppers. These include the “Miracle 30-Day in Thailand” prize for overseas shoppers and the chance to win a THB 1 million gift voucher for local shoppers. To qualify for either draw, shoppers simply need to spend THB 500 on a single receipt between 15 June and 15 August 2012 at participating merchants for a chance at winning. Shoppers can enjoy double chances to win when they pay with their Visa card.
As well as the prize draws, all Visa cardholders will also enjoy up to 80 percent discounts and other privileges from more than 15,000 participating merchants in Bangkok, Chiang Mai, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Samui, Hadyai and Phuket.
Somboon Krobteeranon, Country Manager, Thailand, Visa said: “Thailand is renowned as one of the best shopping destinations in the world and Visa is committed to ensuring that we provide even greater incentives so everyone can take advantage during this shopping extravaganza. We have partnered with the Tourism Authority of Thailand since the launch of this promotion more than 13 years ago and we believe that this year will be even bigger and better than ever.
“Partly, this is due to our promotion programmes in key target markets which generates more awareness and interest in the Grand Sale and has resulted in an increase in sales. Another factor was the competition that we launched to win a fantastic 30-day holiday in Thailand, which was won by a Malaysian tourist, and that is a contest that we shall be running again this year.
He added: “With the addition of exciting new shopping venues along with existing favorites, tourists will have an astounding range of products and services to choose from and we look forward to promoting the Grand Sale and Thailand throughout the region.”
During the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2011, Thai retailers brought in THB27.4 billion in sales from foreign-issued Visa cards, a 34 percent increase on the same period in 2010[1]. The THB 27.4 billion spend shows continued strong performances in the tourism and retail industries last year. Visa cardholders from US, Australia and the UK were the top three spenders and the top spend categories, excluding airfare and accommodation, were jewelry, hospitals and duty-free.
To encourage more visitors to visit Thailand during the Amazing Thailand Grand Sale 2012, Visa has worked with TAT to roll out a series of roadshows in key markets and leveraged its global network to promote the Sale overseas either through Visa-led marketing campaigns or in conjunction with client banks and merchants. The source markets include Singapore, Vietnam, the Philippines, China, Japan, Taiwan, South Korea as well as Oman, UAE, Bahrain and Qatar.
