Ethnobotanists are now much more engaged with sustainable development, biodiversity conservation, cultural affirmation and plant-based new products development. Apart from the intrinsic interest of its findings, ethnobotany is emerging as a subject of great practical value. Its application can lead to not only a strengthening of cultural diversity and biodiversity conservation, but also greater sustainability in the exploitation of plant resources and development of new plant products. The contribution of ethnobotany to biodiversity conservation and bio-product development worldwide, and in particular the Chinese experience on new plant products development and community development is highly appreciated. With this background, BEDO — Biodiversity-Based Economy Development Office, Thailand and KIB — Kunming Institute of Botany, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China have jointly set-up collaboration activity plan on September 3rd, 2011, in Bangkok, as an initial step of collaboration to organize a joint workshop entitled ‘Ethnobotanical Approaches for Development of New Plant-Products’ in March 2012 in Bangkok. Objectives The general objective of the workshop is to introduce the subject Ethnobotany and its methodologies in biodiversity conservation and bio-products development into Thailand for strengthening sustainablility of bio-economy development in the country. Specific objectives of the workshop are: 1. To understand the nature and principal of the discipline and application of ehtnobotany research in modern development. 2. To learn ethnobotanical methods relevant to plant resource studies and management.
