PTT — NECTEC’s Start-up Ceremony for the operation of viable and eco-friendly Photovoltaic (PV) Modules

ข่าวเศรษฐกิจ Thursday June 7, 2012 10:35 —PRESS RELEASE LOCAL

Bangkok--7 Jun--PTT PTT Public Company Limited (PTT) through Mrs. Ratanavalee Inochanon, Executive Vice President, PTT Research and Technology Institute (PTT RTI) together with Dr. Pansak Siriruchatapong, Director, National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC) , National science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) , co-chaired the Start-up Ceremony for the operation of Photovoltaic (PV) Modules, under “the Project of the Evaluation of Performance and Reliability of Different Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies”, at Wang Noi Training center, Wang Noi District, Ayutthaya Province. The project aims to conduct a research study on various Solar-cell generating efficiency including factors affecting those solar cells’ application efficiency. Mrs. Ratanavalee revealed that PTT and NECTEC has collaborated on a research study for developing a viable technology of solar generation systems as a substitute for electricity produced from fossil fuels. That will play an important role in encouraging the domestic use of eco-friendly renewable energy as well as reducing oil-import dependence. In this regard, the project team had to select the suitable and efficient technologies to meet the project requirements for cost reduction of solar generation, both of selection for electricity generating systems and the installation sites. The selected 7 PV technologies, totally 10 kWp, were installed at the project base in Wang Noi, Ayutthaya. In comparison, the PV modules were installed by using 3 techniques; Solar tracking, fixed tilt and Solar rolling systems, while being investigated their output from those systems. Moreover, the data collection and result analysis would be based on the standard of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Dr.Pansak added that NECTEC Solar Energy Technology Laboratory (STL) has been set up since 1998. In NECTEC’s view, Solar energy technologies have potential to open the door to a wider range of applications that will bring more benefits to the society and the country. At present, NECTEC research team’s capability standard for Solar cell technologies matches the world-class. In running the project, STL research team from NECTEC joins hands with PTT RTI’s team to evaluate the efficiency of Solar generation systems with various technologies so that the most efficient kinds of application for solar energy technology will be sought, with regard to Thailand’s environment and climate. The research findings will serve as the useful information for all sectors concerning the domestic solar energy generation and applications, to be able to select the most viable kinds of solar cells. That will lead to reduction of economic loss caused from the selection of inappropriate solar cells, while having the better rate of return and boosting the eco-friendly and sustainable use of renewable energy in Thailand.
