Bangkok--11 Jun--AirAsia
AirAsia is ready to handle the temporary closure of Suvarnabhumi International Airport’s east runway for renovation purposes. The airline is informing its passengers that due to air traffic congestion during the runway renovation, some flight times and schedules may be affected.
Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, CEO of Thai AirAsia, relayed that AirAsia has received word from Suvarnabhumi International Airport that it will be closing its east runway between 11 June and 9 August. The airport has informed that the closure is for renovations that will allow the runway to operate at full efficiency after years of use. The closure will not affect AirAsia’s departing flights as both small aircraft and the airline’s Airbus A320s will still be allowed to use the runway to lift off.
Arriving flights may see some inconvenience as larger aircraft have been asked to land on the west runway. The increased traffic in the area may cause longer wait times for arriving flights and AirAsia apologizes for any inconveniences caused as a result of the runway renovation. Passengers are urged to keep the renovation project in mind when traveling through Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport so they can plan their travel times accordingly.
