Thailand Halal Assembly 2025 Highlights Business Potential of the Green Halal Economy

Thailand Halal Assembly 2025 (THA 2025), held alongside the 18th HASIB exhibition, underscored the growing business and investment potential of the Green Halal Economy under the theme "Green Halal Economy: Beyond Sustainability".

The event demonstrated how halal principles, combined with environmentally responsible practices, can create new market opportunities across food, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, services and innovation-driven industries, responding to rising global demand from environmentally conscious consumers.

A key highlight was the IMT-GT WGHAPAS International Workshop, a strategic platform under the Indonesia-Malaysia-Thailand Growth Triangle framework. The workshop focused on strengthening regional value chains, enhancing halal integrity, and aligning sustainability standards to support cross-border trade, investment and industrial collaboration within the region.

The programme also featured practical business-oriented activities, including the Green Halal Workshop and the hands-on session "Green Halal Make-Your-Own Beauty" led by experts from Herbalstudio. The workshop translated green halal concepts into real products, showcasing how small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can develop market-ready, eco-friendly halal innovations.

In support of long-term industry growth, the Halal Science Center, Chulalongkorn University, signed cooperation agreements with organisations from 12 countries covering research, innovation development and human capital exchange. These partnerships aim to strengthen Thailand's position as a regional hub for halal science, certification and sustainable product development.

More than 70 research works from 34 countries were presented and evaluated, reflecting strong international interest in halal-driven innovation. Selected studies will be published in the Journal of Halal Science, Industry and Business (JHASIB), providing a bridge between academic research and commercial application for the global halal industry.

The opening ceremony was presided over by Surapong Namchairoochipong, Assistant Minister of Industry, and attended by senior representatives from international halal organisations, certification bodies, government agencies and the private sector, reinforcing confidence in Thailand's role in advancing the green halal economy and expanding international business cooperation.
