Bangkok--16 Oct--GIZ German solar power experts are sharing know-how with Thai companies in a series of events supported by the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) aiming at contributing to a sustainable solar market development in Thailand. Since the Thai Government has announced to reach the country’s target of 3,000 MW of installed solar capacity by the end of next year instead of 2021, more and more Thai companies are tapping the solar rooftop as well as the solar farm business. The German Government supports these events so that Thai companies can benefit from German technology and experiences to ensure high-quality solar installations in Thailand. Global solar market development has shown that it is vital in early phases for the technology to deliver on its promises of longevity and reliability. German solar companies are known for their long experience with the development of high-quality products and efficient project engineering in solar energy all over the world. To synergize on this, the German Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) has asked the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and the German-Thai Chamber of Commerce (GTCC) to support the exchange of knowledge and support business partnerships of Thai and German companies active in the photovoltaic sector. Therefore, from October 8-10 GIZ and GTCC conducted the 1st Thai-German Solar Training Week in Bangkok in close cooperation with the Department of Alternative Energy Development and Efficiency (DEDE) and the Thai Photovoltaic Industries Association (TPVA). “The 1st Thai German Solar Training Week is part of DEDE’s capacity building activities to make Thai companies more competitive in the solar market. To this end, the cooperation with BMWi is very helpful to benefit from German company’s experience in the sector”, said Mr. Thammayot Srichuai, Acting-Director General of DEDE. To achieve these goals, 8 expert trainers delivered technical training sessions to 55 participants from Thai solar companies during the 3-day-course. The sessions focused on design and requirements, quality considerations, 3rd party verification, project economics and financing as well as commissioning, documentation, fault detection and other topics. On the third day, the group went on a site-visit to the DEDE Energy Conservation Building to get an impression of the grid-connected PV system installed. Subsequent to the training week a German business delegation trip to Thailand on “Grid-Connected Photovoltaics” is taking place during this week. This business trip was highlighted by a Thai-German Technology Conference on “Grid-Connected Photovoltaics in Thailand” on October 13. More than 150 industry experts attended the event at the Crowne Plaza Bangkok Lumpini Park Hotel to discuss latest market developments, new business models and technology cooperation. “German small and medium enterprises offer rich experience in solar market and technology development. BMWi supports the companies to share experience and good practice to Thailand which will result in more cooperation and mutual benefit between the two countries”, stressed Jan Immel, Deputy Executive Director of GTCC. During the coming days, the German companies will continue to share their knowledge in individual meetings with the German companies and potential develop business partnerships and joint projects. ..............
