Bangkok--12 Feb--Asian Institute of Technology Two projects prepared by the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) were presented at the King Narai military camp on the occasion of Establishment Day at the King Narai Military Camp on 26 January 2015. Presenting the projects were Mr. Waqar Shahid, a doctoral student, and Dr. Mongkol Ekpanyapong, Assistant Professor of Microelectronics and Embedded Systems of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET). The two projects include the fire detection system called “Quick Blaze” and a human motion detection system, both of which being developed at the Vision Graphics Lab of AIT under the supervision of Dr. Matthew N. Dailey and Dr. Mongkol, both of AIT’s SET. The “Quick Blaze” system is a real-time detection system which can detect flames and fires within 30 seconds. “The system can be installed on any Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV), and is easily replicable,” Waqar reveals. The only condition being that the area is restricted and color CCTV cameras are being used. The human motion detection system also works in real-time, and it can record frames from any movement or activity within a restricted area. Being developed at AIT, this project was demonstrated live at the military camp. According to Dr. Mongkol, the human motion detection system demonstrates a better response time compared to available commercial vision-based detection systems. Among the visitors to the AIT projects at the King Narai Military Camp were Major General Thanasak Kengthanomma; Lt. Col. Peerayut Srisupan; and Ms. Orapannee Yuan of National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA). Lt. Col. Peerayut had visited AIT earlier where he was witness to a live demonstration of the “Quick Blaze” project.
