Bangkok--16 Oct--Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok
Shangri-La Hotel, Bangkok celebrates Thailand's romantic Loy Krathong Festival. The theme will be 'The Dawn of Happiness' along the magnificent riverside of Chao Phraya River on Monday, 11 November 2019 and guests will journey back to the Sukhothai era to experience the Thai historical mythology on the full-moon night of Loy Krathong.
Legend has it that during the period of Sukhothai (meaning 'the dawn of happiness'), a royal consort named Nang Noppamas created a lotus-shaped vessel made of banana leaves and flowers, and presented it to the King. That beautiful creation became the first krathong to float on the river as a sign of gratitude to the river goddess.Since then, beauty pageants conducted in Nang Noppamas' honour have become a traditional part of the Loy Krathong celebrations.
Enjoy a wide range of international cuisine from around the world and authentic cuisine crafted by our talented chefs whilst drinking in the mesmerising scene of thousands of krathongs and a breathtaking firework display over the Chao Phraya River. The celebrations will be filled with exciting entertainment, including Thai drum performance, the art of Thai boxing (Muay Thai), a traditional Isan dance show, Miss Noppamas beauty contest and raffle prizes.
