PTT Grants Baht 1.6 Million Youth Scholarships Promotes 5S Program In Schools Nationwide

Bangkok--14 Jun--PTT Today, June 14, 2007, at PTT Head Office, Mr. Chaivat Churitti, Senior Executive Vice President of Oil Business Group — PTT Public Company Limited (PTT), chaired the Scholarships Granting Ceremony 2007 (for the Central and East) in order to allow the youth in the outskirt to have the chance to get access to higher level of education. Aside from the total 160 scholarships granting to the youth from the Central and East of Thailand, Mr. Chaivat also chaired the 5S Award Presentation Ceremony to the winning schools who won the 5S School Competition 2006. There are totally 9 awards being given. The Senior Executive Vice President revealed that PTT introduces good social activities together with its core responsibility in creating energy stability toward the country. PTT realizes that the youth is the important force for the country’s future development; therefore, PTT focuses on providing equal learning opportunity, upgrading their living standards, and boosting awareness on wise utilization of energy through various community projects. “PTT Scholarships Granting Project” was started since 1996, and until today, total 3,200 scholarships worth Baht 11,500,000 were awarded to qualified students. Under PTT Scholarships Project, in each year, PTT will inform the target schools nationwide (mostly those locating in the nearby area of PTT’s Oil Depots or Gas Terminals) about the project. The schools will then select qualified students and propose to PTT for the scholarships. In 2007 School Year, PTT will grant 460 scholarships worth totally Baht 1,600,000. The scholarships will be granted to poor students who are obedient and high caliber. Today’s ceremony is initially granting only 160 scholarships worth Baht 504,000 to students in the elementary, high school, vocational school, and university. The remaining will later be granted to the students in other provinces. For PTT 5S Youth Development Project, PTT started since 1997 in order to enhance sanitary and disciplinary environment among the youth and community. PTT will welcome the schools in the community surrounding PTT’s Oil Depots or Gas Terminals to participate the Project. The management at PTT’s Oil Depots or Gas Terminals will do the initially screening. The selected schools will each receive Baht 3,000 as the expense to buy cleaning equipments. Next, these schools will have to compete internally to find the best 5S practice, and the winners will altogether receive Baht 6,000 Prize, and go on to compete in the national level. Total prizes in the national competition are Baht 300,000. Thus, PTT’s total investment for the 5S Project this year is Baht 1,700,000. There were totally 40 schools participated in the 2006 5S Competition, and the winners who received Top Prize and the Winning Plaque from PTT were : Grand Prize Winner for the large-size school category : In 2006’s Competition, none was qualified for the Grand Prize Grand Prize Winner for the Medium-size school category : Samakki Rotfai School Grand Prize Winner for the Small-size school category : Bang Bai Mai School and Ban Kas Mek (Joint Winners) Any school winning the top prize for 3 consecutive years in a row will be promoted 5S Promoting Center and will receive Baht 30,000 support fund from PTT. At present, there are altogether 4 PTT 5S Promoting Centers who received the combined support funds from PTT worth Baht 120,000.
