Thai depository prepares for dual listing and direct link with Singapore

Bangkok--26 Jun--SET Thailand Securities Depository Co., Ltd. (TSD) is confident that post-trade services for Thailand’s first dual listing, Total Access Communication PCL (DTAC), will proceed smoothly for both the Thai and Singapore depositories. TSD looks forward to linking directly with Singapore to better facilitate future dual listings. For Thai investors, clearing and settlement of DTAC shares will be similar to trading other shares. However, cross-border trades are a little more involved, TSD Chief Executive Officer Ms. Sopawadee Lertmanaschai said.People who purchase DTAC shares in Singapore and sell on the Thai market can choose to either: 1) Transfer their share scrip from Singapore through a securities company to be deposited with TSD, so that the shares can be traded on the Thai market. This will take about eight business days, or 2) Under the scripless system, notify their DTAC share registrar in Singapore to transfer the shares they would like to sell on the Thai market, and give their securities or custodian company trading account number. This will take about four business days. Purchasing DTAC shares in Thailand and selling in Singapore entails the same procedure(s). Additionally, these traders will have to contact TSD to check the foreign holding limit for DTAC and transfer their holding status to foreign ownership before selling shares in Singapore. This will take about 14 business days. “Because cross-border trade currently requires more processing and time, it is expected there will not be many cross-border transactions. The TSD board has approved conducting a feasibility study covering legal and technical aspects to facilitate linking directly with the Singapore depository. The study may demonstrate that direct linkage would accelerate and facilitate cross-border transfers,” Ms. Sopawadee added.
